Started her career at Star Fleet Academy with recommendation of the honorable fleet member Karok of Vulcan. She joined Fed Science Services. She quietted the Academy before finishing her last year. [the reason is not open for public] She got the post of the science officer on the U.S.S. Socrates under Dr. Thomas Hayle, a famous scientist for mineralogy and silicon based intelligence. He handled the command over to her after retiring.

Talya is not a normal Betazoid with the "normal" telepathical powers the whole race have from birth on. She is "gifted" (she would say cursed) with greater powers, powers she cannot control all the time and even powers she isn't aware of.

Her parents were not able to handle or control her. They feared her instead. After she broke the code of honor to not read the thoughts unasked or unwillingly by the one whose thoughts are read they send her to a school for telepaths. There she was the trouble of the teachers. And there she broke the code again by reading the thoughts of one of her teachers. He despised her for what she is and what powers she has. In addition the only person who got nearer to her left her alone. She was in love with an eight year older boy with similar powers like hers. But he left for the academy and she never heard of him again. She made a decision. She ran away and left Betazed on a star liner, masked with her abilities. She left a letter for her parents in which she tried to describe her feelings. But she knew she broke their hearts with her decision.

On the star liner she got along well, reading minds for money or make the people do what she wanted. Probably she never would have left the star liner if not there was a Vulcan star fleet officer who found her right as she stole some food. Instead of delivering her to the officials he took charge of her and tough her much about her abilities. He showed her the way to the Academy where she joined the Science Services.

First time in her life not her mental powers were at the forefront – at least at the beginning. Everything was fine until some of her fellow students got aware of her psionic abilities. They tried to experiment with her. One of them numbed her but her mind struggled against the narcotics and had won. She didn’t know what happened but after the fight two of the three students had to stay on sick bay with broken bones and bleeding wounds. The third one – some say the leader – is since that event in psychological treatment unable to sleep a night without nightmares.

A stranger to her, Dr. Thomas Hayle, took her under his protection on his ship, the U.S.S. Socrates. He treated her as a person not as a monster or object to experiment with. She got the rank of Science Officer on his ship and accompanied him through his missions. He researched an ancient race of intelligent crystal beings which lived in the Beta Ursae Sector. He got heavily injured through a cave in on a distant planet and had to retire. His mission records and findings are now all in Talya’s ownership. With that she got a piece of amethyst like crystal that pulsates from within when in her hands. And sometimes she hears thoughts from that crystal.
