Character Sheet Tips

Sometimes we find it very hard to come up with added details for our characters, it could be music, fun facts, strengths and weaknesses. But what I’ve found is that people really have a hard time writing a good piece of history to go along with all the details. So here are some helpful tips for anything you may have a problem with:

Tips:

Try and be as creative as you can. Sometimes, history that has been written in a matter of ten minutes isn’t always the best read.
Spelling and grammar is a must! If you think you might have missed something, feel free to ask a staff member/normal member to proof read your work, sometimes two eyes are better than one.
Try not to repeat yourself too much.
Don’t use someone else’s history or idea’s, unless you really want to get stabbed in the back.
The more the information you give, the more your character sheet will get feedback. And I know that sounds silly, but if you take a look at other people’s character sheets (I’ve created a list in the next post listed good cs’s) you will notice how people have written so much detail their character sheet is the highlight of the CS board and is always on the front page.
If you think you can’t do anymore, post what you have and say something like ‘To be Continued’ – ‘WIP’ – ‘More Coming Soon’ – It keeps your readers around to read the rest of the story.
Try not to copy the idea of your newest television show you are obsessed about, 1: You can get into deep trouble. 2: Its not really your own ideas. 3: Its not creative, its just being lazy.
And this is a must! Try not to make 3+ character sheets every other week, that gets annoying and remember the staff have to clean up this place all the time. So help us keep it tidy.
Use header/footers images! And colours! They always make your character sheet nice looking, but try not to make your images too big.
Try not to copy other people's styles, we understand theres not much to go by when it comes to cs layouts, but some people can get rather touchy when it comes to you taking ideas from them without even asking.

Stuck on History?:

Heres a list of things that might help you:
- Was your chanter rich/poor?
- Wanting to run from home?
- Seeking an adventure?
- Was abused at one point?
- Kidnapped?
- Lonely?
- Did their Parents die?
- Did they do something back home and needed to escape.
- Past lives?
- Lost the love of their life?

These are all little things that maybe you could use. But try not to really copy them, embrace them and create something that is your own.

Pictures:

All I really have to say is, if you’re going to use pictures, don’t cover your character sheet up with them! After all even if you think it would help your readers know about your character’s looks more, links out to the pictures is so much easier and much more organized.

Non-Playable Character’s:

Although you have your character and people join your thread, you can actually create someone that comes with your story. These characters are called ‘Non-Playable Characters’, they are people in your story that you’ve created to help along the plotline and unless you’ve said people can use them, you’re the only person who is able to use/move/etc. Never create another account to hold one of your non-playable’s, its best to just put a section in your character sheet to show your readers who they are, give them a bit of history, tell them their age/race/birthplace and of course give them skin/history if you wish. Here is an example of such a thing:
